Branding + Web Design
Altoona Christian Church, a long-standing community church in central Iowa, sought an updated brand presence that more clearly reflected its core values, family-oriented culture, and deep community connections. As the church expanded its summer camps and youth programs, the goal was to create a welcoming, modern identity that honored tradition while inviting new families and members to engage more deeply. Working as creative director alongside the Web Director, I helped shape a visual and strategic direction rooted in the church’s message of “Open doors, open minds, open hearts,” with arched photo treatments and doorway-inspired design elements symbolizing inclusion, warmth, and belonging.
I co-created the brand experience from initial moodboards and stylescapes through final website mockups used by the development team. The creative approach balanced a family-forward and youth-focused tone with a modern aesthetic—featuring clean navigation, soft shapes, accessible typography, simple custom icons, and a refreshed color palette that reinterprets traditional Christian hues for a contemporary audience. I selected and refined all stock imagery to emphasize diversity, inclusivity, and community life, and developed sectional background patterns inspired by archways, windows, doors, and stained-glass motifs. I also directed the design of custom icons with a focus on approachability and clarity, resulting in a welcoming digital presence that feels hopeful, inclusive, and rooted in community.
